Bo Tang

Bo Tang is Head & Assistant Director of HKUST Institute for Financial Research. He leads multiple policy research initiatives and university–industry collaboration projects. He also serves as key investigator of the Digital Currency and Digital Asset Research Initiative and the AI Finance Research Initiative. Previously, he worked at Alibaba DAMO Academy, Luohan Academy, and the Global Investment Research Team of Pantheon, and has advised several blockchain and AI startups.


Professor Tang holds a Ph.D. in Finance from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), an M.S. in Quantitative Finance from Washington University in St. Louis, and a B.S. in Mathematics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). His primary research areas include fintech, digital economy, asset pricing, and sustainable finance. He is a reviewer for leading academic journals such as Review of Financial Studies and Management Science. His research on digital currencies won the Best Paper Award at the International Conference on Smart Finance 2022. He has been invited to speak at major global forums including the World Economic Forum, COP (United Nations Climate Change Conference), UNCTAD’s Digital Economy Forum, and the China Data Asset Management 50+ Forum. His views have been cited in major media outlets such as People’s Daily, Caijing, Ta Kung Pao, China Fund News, Shanghai Media Group (SMG), South China Morning Post, Reuters, etc.
