Bo Tang is the Assistant Director of HKUST Institute for Financial Research. He previously served as Director of Technology Development and Cooperation at Alibaba DAMO Academy, Economist of Luohan Academy, and Strategist of Alibaba Group. He has been involved in the strategic planning, investment, and innovative business in the fields of FinTech, AI, semi-conductors, data governance, and ESG. Before joining Alibaba, he was an Investment Researcher in the Global Investment Research team at Pantheon (a $68-billion institutional investor) in London, UK.
Dr. Tang holds a Ph.D. in Finance from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), an M.Sc. in Quantitative Finance from Washington University in St. Louis (WUSTL), and a B.Sc. in Mathematics from the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK). His main research interests include FinTech, digital economy, asset pricing, and ESG. His research papers have won the Best Paper Award at the 2022 International Conference of Smart Finance, and he serves as a referee of leading academic journals such as the Review of Financial Studies and Management Science. Dr. Tang has taught Executive Education and Master's class of FinTech and digital economy as a guest lecturer at multiple institutions.
